Special Notes: The $50,000 Invitational, the first big money disc golf tournament, was sponsored by Wham-O in May 1979. Tom Kennedy, PDGA #87, founder of the Santa Barbara Condors and the Ultimate Players Association, beat John Connelly (#992) on the second hold of sudden death to win the Open division. Cynthia Allen (#185) won the Open Women's division. Ed Headrick was the tournament director. Note the TM on the disc after Disc-Golf, suggesting that Wham-O was attempting to trademark the term at the time.
