Special Notes: While the east used the Master, the west had already made the jump to the 165G for the 1977 Westerns. Its hot stamp has the same design as the '77 Eastern label—an iconic piece of art by Junah Bodá (Tom Bodá at the time). The 1977 Western/Eastern disc set is a favorite of ultimate collectors.
The Western championships were held in Irvine, CA, on July 7–9, 1977. A nine-team round robin determined the four final teams. In the end it was the Santa Barbara Condors over the Foothill Institute of Frisbee Culture by one point, 14-13.

After ultimate's beginnings in 1968 at Columbia High School, Maplewood, NJ, the players at CHS, and the schools they taught the game to and played against, disbursed to various colleges. This group, later dubbed the Johnny Appleseeds, brought the game to their respective colleges.

On November 6, 1972, the first intercollegiate game was played between Rutgers and Princeton, exactly 103 years to the day after the first intercollegiate football game was played between the same two schools.

In 1975, the first intercollegiate championships was held at Yale. A Master Frisbee commemorated that tournament with a special label. That was the beginning of a long history of ultimate tournament discs, which are captured in this gallery.

The first section of discs are the early championships, in chronological order. That is followed by a section of the Ultimate Players' Association (UPA) and later USA Ultimate's sectional, regional, and national championships. These are also in chronological order. This is followed by school (college and high school) tournaments and then beach ultimate tournaments. Finally, the last (large) section of tournament discs are for various annual tournaments, in alphabetical order by the name of the event.
