How to Contribute
      to the Flying Disc Museum

The breadth and depth of the Flying Disc Museum relies on the entire disc community contributing photos and information to capture and preserve the history of all disc sports. To contribute, just follow these ten steps:

  1. Look around the Museum. See what is already there, especially in areas where you have photos to contribute. We want to avoid duplicate photos, and don't want you to waste time uploading and describing discs that are already in the museum.
  2. Review the standards for photographs and descriptors that will accompany each photo. Be sure you understand the requirements and are ready, wiling, and able to follow them to maintain consistency throughout the Museum. Note that the process to contribute scans of printed material is different. Please read the Scanning Guidelines for details.
  3. If you haven't done it already, go to the Contribute page and fill out the Contributor Request and Agreement form. You can use the online form or print the PDF and submit it by email.
  4. Once your request is approved, you will get an email with your own Museum account. The email will contain instructions on how to assign a password and activate your account. You will have a private folder to upload photos to.
  5. Log in to your account using the Login link at the bottom of main menu on the homepage, or in the footer of any other page.
  6. Find your private upload folder and upload a small sample, three to five (3–5), of your photos and add descriptors to each of them. Use these instructions to help do the upload and add titles and descriptors (captions) to each photo. Check out the Contributor Resources section below where you can find the photography and descriptor/style guides mentioned earlier. Also there is a guide to taking better disc photos, Museum glossary, and other guides to help with your descriptors. The last section of this page provides blank descriptors that you can copy and paste into the upload area to help add your descriptors.
  7. Send an email to [email protected] when you've finished your sample upload.
  8. The appropriate curator(s) or gallery manager(s) will review your sample submissions (photo and descriptor information) and contact you with any comments, concerns, or questions, or with the green light to upload more. The curator/gallery manager staff will move your photos into the appropriate FDM gallery.
  9. If you elected to be listed as a contributor in your Contributor Request and Agreement form, your name and contact information will be added to the contributors page showing the details you opted to share.
  10. If any of the photos you've submitted, either during your initial sample upload or later when adding the rest of your contribution, duplicate a submission that is already in the Museum, it will be up to the sole discretion of the curator or gallery manager whether to accept and use your submission. They may replace the entire existing entry with yours, keep the original photo but use information from your descriptor, use your photo but keep the original descriptor, or not use your submission at all. If any part of your submission is used, you will share credit with the original contributor.

Now all you need to do is keep uploading photos and descriptors and see how far you can climb up the Contributor Wall of Fame!

The FDM recognizes that taking the time to photograph your discs, catalog their attributes and upload all of it to the museum takes time and energy. We, along with the countless visitors of the museum, thank you for your efforts. The FDM’s success is dependent on the flying disc community’s involvement. This program is built for the distinguished group of individuals whose outstanding generosity demonstrates a commitment to the tradition of yesterday and the vision of tomorrow.

Qualifications

  • You have up to twelve months to reach your flight level. Your time may be extended under certain circumstances. Your time begins at your first submission.
  • Your images must meet FDM standards.
  • Your descriptors need to be as complete as possible.
  • Each flight is cumulative. You will receive your awards as you reach each flight. Your final flight qualification will be recognized at the end of your time.
  • Only images and descriptors that are accepted into the FDM qualify.
  • Contributing to our blog, The Complete Spin..., earns contributor credits at the rate of one credit per 500 words.

Recognition Wall of Fame

The FDM displays a recognition wall for those who have contributed to the museum.

  • World Class—The World Class flight is for those individuals who upload 500 satisfactory images and the completed descriptors for those images.
  • Master—The Master flight is for those who upload 100 images and the completed descriptors for those images.
  • Champion—The Champion flight is for those who upload 25 images and the completed descriptors for those images.
  • Mini-Star—The Mini-Star flight is for those who upload 5 images and the completed descriptors for those images.

The Flight level you reach entitles you to the following:

World Class

  • The Master awards, PLUS
  • Your name listed on the Wall of Fame in a prestigious place.
  • A very limited, custom engraved wooden disc reserved only for World Class contributors—your name on a World Class disc.
  • A quality FDM collared shirt recognizing your contributions.
  • A certificate of thanks, suitable for wall hanging.

Master

  • The Champion awards, PLUS
  • A limited, special run clear Wham-O 82E mold only available for Master contributors, customized with your name and Master Contributor number.
  • A custom FDM Master Contributor bag tag.

Champion

  • The Mini-Star awards, PLUS
  • A custom Innova Golf Disc with your name printed on it, only available for Champion contributors.
  • One companion FDM mini with your qualifying number on it.

Mini-Star

  • Your name listed on the Recognition Wall.
  • One FDM mini with your qualifying number on it.
