Special Notes: This is the 8th HDX of the 80 series molds. This was Wham-O's first and only disc of this color, and the only 81C mold HDX. Production of this disc began in April of 1981, and there are five known variants. This disc featured a purple hot stamp (The production run), a white hot stamp, a silver hot stamp, a blank and a very light lavender tint, which almost looks unpigmented. These"almost unpigmented" discs may have been a transitional color between two runs of different color plastics. Discs that are produced between color changes tend to be lighter or darker in color (depending on the next color) or have streaks or color gradations radiating from the center of the disc were molten plastic is injected into the mold. According to Wham-O employees who were there at the time, all manufacturing was contracted out to plastic molding companies. We may never know exactly how these discs got their extremely light color. I was friends with Tim Selinske, RIP who worked for Wham-O. This disc was a Christmas present from Tim in 1981. A very special disc to me indeed.
