Special Notes: From Scott McDonald, "Sock monkeys are a symbol of Rockford's manufacturing history- The machine that knits seamless tube socks was created in Rockford by John Nelson of Nelson Knitting Company. Their heather gray with bright red heel workman's socks were called 'Rockfords' and in the 1920s and '30s Nelson Knitting Co would donate 144 dozen pairs to a convent in southern Wisconsin where they made the socks into monkeys and sold them to fund the convent.
