Special Notes: The first Comeback Cups were made for Pepsi by Whirley Industries and issued in 1986 and 1987. The idea was that after buying the logo-emblazoned cup filled with Pepsi, you could bring it back to get a refill at a nominal cost. The idea soon spread to other Pepsi vendors. Ominous stories began spreading in 1989 of the dangers posed by dirty cups contaminating the self-serve dispensers of fast food restaurants. Although any evidence of someone actually becoming sick is elusive, Comeback Cups fell out of favor.
